RN - DOU - Lakewood - FT Days

University of California, Irvine•Lakewood, CA

About The Position

The Registered Professional Nurse delivers patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation while meeting safe nursing practice expectations. The role cares for patients with varied acuity levels and applies clinical knowledge and technical skills to general and specialty populations. The nurse functions independently in usual unit situations and seeks guidance for new or complex circumstances. The position is based in the DOU at Lakewood and is listed for full-time day work, though the role requires flexibility to work variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The nurse develops and implements age- and culturally appropriate plans of care and nursing interventions with patients and families, evaluates treatment outcomes, and revises care as needed. The role includes participating in interdisciplinary rounds, providing patient and family education, administering medications and IVs safely, and performing assigned unit duties such as hemodynamics, temporary pacemaker management, chest tube management, ACT testing, Accu-Check, AV sheath removal, and central line removal. The nurse may float to other areas outside their expertise after orientation, with assignments adjusted to validated competency. The position also includes delegating and supervising assistants, supporting unit goals and quality improvement, following hospital and department policies, contributing to professional development and staff learning, and upholding patient rights. Other duties or responsibilities may be assigned.
