About The Position

The Vascular Experts is a group of Board-Certified Vascular Surgeons throughout CT. We have several office-based procedure suites where are seeking an Angio Suite Registered Nurse to cover Watertown Location/ Travel. To provide direct nursing care for our patients undergoing diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional procedures. The incumbent is responsible for procedure pre-op, admission to facility, intra procedural patient care as well as recovery and discharge from facility. Prepares and maintains accurate and timely documentation regarding all patients and procedures.

Requirements

  • The incumbent must have an A.S or B.S degree in Nursing, and hold an active CT issued RN license that is free from any discipline or restrictions in practice
  • Minimum of two (2) years direct experience in a Cath Lab or Vascular & Interventional Radiology practice or lab, Emergency Department, or ICU critical care.
  • Must be experienced in IV insertions and removals and be certified in both BCLS and ACLS.

Responsibilities

  • Completes the Pre-Call Checklist and calls patient prior to procedure.
  • Completes pre assessment work sheet, obtains baseline vital signs; T, BP, HR & Rhythm, RR & O2 saturation, assessment of listening to lungs, heart, inspecting skin for wounds, swelling and discoloration and complete Mallampati class
  • Insert peripheral IV, shave access site-bilateral groins.
  • Reviews and confirms past medical history, medications and allergies to medication, latex, contrast and food
  • Administers pre op medications and IV fluids for pre-hydration or treatment of hypotension per MD
  • Obtain consent from the patient or patient representative.
  • Reports any abnormal findings to MD and Conscious Sedation Nurse
  • Gives hand off report to Conscious Sedation Nurse
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Manager or other authorized TVE Manager or Executive.
  • Monitor patient and administer conscious sedation as per MD orders.
  • Documentation of procedural events.
  • Time out participation/initiation.
  • Vitals every five minutes or sooner if necessary.
  • Respond to patient needs and reassess patient’s condition.
  • Complete vital signs, vascular and groin checks every 15 minutes for the first hour, every 30 minutes for the second hour and every hour thereafter and reports abnormal finds to MD
  • Performs thorough access site assessment for bleeding, swelling, bruising, pain, loss of pulse, change in color or temperature
  • Applies manual pressure to stop bleeding or to initiate absorption of hematoma as required
  • Documents any unexpected findings and interventions and promptly reports them to MD
  • Keeps family informed and updated
  • Removes IV, provides discharge instructions and discharge patient from the facility.
  • Performs post procedural call to check on patients 24 hours following the procedure.
