About The Position

The Registered Nurse will provide pre-procedure, procedure, and post-procedure care to patients. This includes assisting the physician, admitting patients, implementing nursing activities for safe and individualized care, and addressing patient needs in the endoscopy room. The role involves administering medication, providing comfort and reassurance, explaining procedures, monitoring patient condition, and ensuring continuity of care through documentation and communication. The nurse will also explain post-procedure instructions, perform competently in emergencies, conduct post-procedure phone calls, and participate in Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, and Infection Prevention Committee projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certification
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Active license within the state of South Carolina
  • CPR certification/ACLS certification
  • IV conscious sedation training
  • Evidence of leadership qualities
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • Ability to make logical decisions and solve problems
  • Communicate clearly and proficiently
  • Ability of perform any nursing duty asked
  • Have extensive knowledge of nursing techniques
  • Pass security check
  • Ability to stand for long periods and ability to walk
  • Physical strength for equipment needs and patient-care activities
  • Visual and auditory acuity for timely responsiveness and patient-care assessment activities
  • Ability to move quickly in response to patient needs
  • Ability to make frequent judgments and respond to routine problems
  • Ability to make occasional judgments and respond to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills

Responsibilities

  • Assists the physician in providing pre-procedure, procedure and post-procedure care to the patient
  • Assists in the admission of patients to pre-procedure and post-procedure area according to established guidelines
  • Implements appropriate nursing activities to provide safe and individualized nursing care
  • Addresses patient needs during admission to the endoscopy room, with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting
  • Identifies the patient and correct procedure according to policy and procedure and communicates with all members of the medical team
  • Administers medication per order of physician and based on condition of patient
  • Provides comfort, reassurance to patient and maintains patient’s privacy and dignity
  • Explains procedures and care to the patient
  • Monitors patient condition and maintains accurate documentation pre-procedure, during procedure, and post-procedure
  • Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly
  • Assists in explaining the physician’s post-procedure instructions to patient/family
  • Performs with competence in emergency situations
  • Post-procedure phone call to follow up with patient day after procedure
  • Participates in Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Infection Prevention Committee projects.
