About The Position

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is actively seeking devoted and passionate Registered Nurses to join their team at SCI Waymart. As a Corrections Nurse, you will work with experienced auxiliary staff and have excellent managerial support within a collaborative and communicative team environment. The role involves providing daily nursing care for offenders and supporting safe and effective health operations within the institution, including assessments, treatments, medication support, and health education to maintain a stable and healthy environment.

Requirements

  • Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • If possessing an active temporary practice permit, must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within one (1) year.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
  • If claiming education, must attach a copy of college transcripts.
  • Application must be submitted by the posting closing date.
  • All application materials and interview responses must reflect the applicant’s own experience, qualifications, and work.

Nice To Haves

  • Eligible to apply if within 60 days of graduating from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing.
  • At the time of appointment, must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical assessments, identify concerns, and make nursing diagnoses that guide proper care.
  • Administer medications, monitor compliance, and observe how well treatments are working.
  • Provide ordered treatments, assist with examinations, and support daily living needs for assigned individuals.
  • Update electronic health records, review charts, and prepare documentation for transfers or releases.
  • Teach health practices to staff and offenders and reinforce information that supports safe behavior.
  • Maintain readiness for inspections and follow all required infection control and quality procedures.
