About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse on the PM's Flex unit at Linden Oaks. The role involves assessing patients' conditions, developing and administering care plans, documenting care, and evaluating outcomes. The nurse will welcome patients, promote a safe and therapeutic environment, ensure rounds and precaution records are completed, and collaborate with the Resource and Referral Department for admissions and transfers. They will also be responsible for thorough handoff communication, interacting with patients and families to gather data for care planning, and participating in the interdisciplinary planning process. The role includes ensuring medical problems are incorporated into the treatment plan, assisting in the development of nursing department goals, participating in program evaluation, and attending in-service programs. The nurse will serve as a role model and resource for students, explain policies, utilize community groups to educate about mental health, supervise direct patient care, and work within budgetary constraints regarding staffing, overtime, and supplies.

Requirements

Maintain information as highly confidential
Nursing degree
Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse license
Current CPR Certification issued by either American Heart Association or Red Cross
CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

One-year psychiatric experience
Basic knowledge of abnormal psychology as typically found in the psychiatric population
Familiarity with management of a therapeutic level system and understanding of system of rewards and consequences

Assessing patients' condition
Developing and administering patient plan of care
Documenting care administered
Evaluating patient care outcomes
Warmly welcoming patients to the unit
Promoting and maintaining a safe, therapeutic milieu by providing appropriate supervision and feedback to the other direct care staff
Ensuring that rounds are assigned and precaution records completed in real time
Collaborating with the Resource and Referral Department to facilitate patient admissions and transfers
Requesting and providing thorough hand off communication upon admission, transfer or discharge and when sending or receiving boarding patients
Interacting with the patient, the patient’s family, and the appropriate health care providers to collect and analyze data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and anticipated discharge planning needs
Participating in development of interdisciplinary planning process
Ensuring that medical problems are incorporated into the treatment plan
Assisting in the development and attainment of nursing department goals and objectives
Participating in activities to improve department functioning and to enhance own professional competence
Assisting in the selection and orientation of qualified personnel to provide optimum patient care
Demonstrating the ability to evaluate suggestions and criticisms objectively and wherever necessary undertakes to change behavior or seek further guidance
Participating in program evaluation
Attending in-service programs and trainings
Serving as a role model and central resource person for students
Explaining and clarifying organization policies and procedures to staff and patients
Utilizing opportunities with community groups to further their knowledge and understanding of mental health problems
Supervising direct patient care as required
Working within budgetary constraints to include staffing, use of overtime and use of supplies and equipment
