About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in the Endoscopy department at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center. The role involves providing direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. The nurse will collaborate with healthcare team members, educate patients and families, and maintain accurate documentation. The position also requires adherence to safety protocols, proper equipment function, and cost containment measures. Leadership responsibilities may include assuming the Charge Nurse role and delegating patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform systemic, comprehensive, and accurate patient assessments with complete documentation.
  • Assess chart findings and physical status, reporting abnormal findings to physicians.
  • Assess patient and family needs, explaining important processes.
  • Identify patients and/or families most in need of personal assistance and resolve issues.
  • Identify patient needs and problems, analyzing assessment data to determine relevant patient diagnosis.
  • Plan nursing care utilizing ANA and SGNA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.
  • Perform ongoing assessment as patient's condition warrants.
  • Initiate collaboration with other health care team members to meet changing patient needs.
  • Advocate for the patient.
  • Integrate learning, cultural, and emotional needs of the patient and family into the plan of care.
  • Integrate and implement nursing practice across the continuum of care.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with personnel in all areas to maintain maximum efficiency while respecting privacy and confidentiality.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of intervention and revise Plan of Care as appropriate.
  • Evaluate individualized patient goals by utilizing established policies and standards of care.
  • Ensure pain assessment and re-assessment is performed and documented as per policy.
  • Document legibly and accurately in completing the patient chart.
  • Document all patient/family teaching interventions and responses.
  • Document patient responses to all medical and nursing interventions as per nursing standards.
  • Act as a patient advocate and assure that a patient’s rights are respected.
  • Promote an environment where the patient and family is at the center and the patient care team works cooperatively toward their goal and objectives.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other specialty caregivers to optimize patient and family care.
  • Initiate and maintain an open line of communication with patients and their families to expedite delays, cares for their concerns or notifies charge nurse about unresolved problems needing resolution.
  • Assure efficient turnaround time between cases, demonstrating organizational skills and priority setting.
  • Participate in Peer Review Process and in Unit Based Shared Governance.
  • Orient and educate new staff members on equipment use and department policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professional practice responsibility and fulfill mandatory education obligations.
  • Identify areas for clinical and professional growth.
  • Attend pertinent educational offerings.
  • Show initiative to obtain information on new equipment and technology.
  • Role model patient care activities, tasks, and behaviors to advance practice of endoscopy technician.
  • Recognize emergency situations and react appropriately.
  • Maintain a safe clean patient care environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proper administration of medication.
  • Maintain sterile field and adhere to standards for sterile procedures, if applicable.
  • Assist with proper collection, labeling and processing of specimens as directed by physician.
  • Be aware of surroundings while maintaining focus on patient care avoiding distractions.
  • Maintain all equipment as per policy and procedure and recognize and report any hazardous situation to supervisor.
  • Anticipate, provide and utilize proper instrumentation, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain orderly and proper functioning and storage of equipment.
  • Assure proper disinfection technique, as per Infection Control Committee and department policy, on all instruments and equipment used in department.
  • Possess knowledge to assemble/disassemble all equipment used in department.
  • Offer constructive suggestions regarding cost containment to leadership and follow hospital-based initiatives to reduce cost.
  • Provide accurately charting of patients procedure and charge slip to ensure time revenue stream.
  • Voluntarily seek other duties when own assignment is completed.
  • Responsibly sign in and out at designated times as per AHS policy.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsibility in meeting staff needs of the unit.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and problem-solving techniques.
  • Adapt to change by originating own ideas while making leadership aware of initiatives.
  • Demonstrate competence and willingness to function in a leadership role.
  • Delegate patient care to others with an understanding of their role, knowledge, competencies.
  • Assume Charge nurse role as needed and facilitate cases and ensure efficient patient throughput.
