Floor Nurse, Med-surg Adult, Med-surg Mother/Baby, Med-surg Peds, Registered Nurse
About The Position
This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care across various units including Med-surg Adult, Med-surg Mother/Baby, Med-surg Peds, and general Med-surg. The Registered Nurse will conduct patient assessments, administer treatments, and collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The position also requires managing care for behavioral health patients, applying age-specific and cultural considerations, and acting as a clinical resource to support the organization's mission. Additionally, the role includes supervising Unit Secretaries and Patient Care Technicians in conjunction with the Charge Nurse.
Requirements
- Graduate of an NLN-approved nursing program.
- Active, unencumbered Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
- Must pass and maintain all position-specific competencies.
- Thorough knowledge of the Alaska Nursing Statutes, medical terminology, care management, and clinical equipment.
- Strong written and oral communication for accurate documentation, patient advocacy, and team collaboration.
- Ability to solve practical clinical problems, calculate dosages/rates accurately, and interpret varied written or oral instructions.
- Capability to work independently within established limits and adapt to flexible scheduling needs.

Responsibilities
- Conduct initial patient assessments and comprehensive re-assessments every 24 hours.
- Direct, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care based on established practice standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Administer medications/treatments, interpret diagnostic tests, and deliver patient/family education.
- Manage care for behavioral health patients using therapeutic communication techniques.
- Apply age-specific considerations and cultural diversity principles across all care settings.
- Act as a clinical resource person and support YKHC’s organizational mission.
- Guide and supervise Unit Secretaries and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
