About The Position

The position of Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assisting the Provider with patient visits during clinic, as well as administering moderate sedation during procedures. The RN may be responsible for performing scribe duties (documenting patient encounters, ensuring provider sign-off on charts, monitoring voicemails and EMR messages) or circulator duties (updating patient information, documenting warnings, updating medical history, recording vital signs, completing referrals, sending prior authorizations, scheduling appointments, monitoring voicemails and EMR messages). During procedures, the RN administers moderate sedation and must demonstrate knowledge of relevant anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and potential complications. The role requires excellent communication, attention to detail, organization, and basic computer literacy.

Requirements

  • Valid, unrestricted Arkansas Registered Nurse license
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification
  • Current influenza vaccination
  • Current TB skin test
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong telephone communication skills
  • Knowledge of current medical terminology to communicate with physician, staff, and patients
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong organization, filing, and time management skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Provider with patient visits during clinic.
  • Administer moderate sedation during procedures.
  • Accompany Provider into the patient examination room and accurately document the Provider’s encounter with the patient, including HIP, ROS, Physical Assessment, Education, Lab Orders, Radiology Orders, Assessment/Plan, Billing, and Meaningful Use.
  • Ensure that the Provider reviews and signs off on the patient’s chart.
  • Regularly monitor voicemails and promptly return phone calls from patients.
  • Regularly monitor EMR messages and respond in a timely manner.
  • Update Face Sheet Plan with all pertinent information including but not limited to UDS/PMP/Pill Count Consistent/Inconsistent, Repeat UDS, Procedures/Imaging/PT, and Medication Refills/Changes/Weaning Plan.
  • Document Warnings/Violations/Inappropriate Behavior in “Alerts” or in the personal notes section of the Face Sheet.
  • Update Past Medical History ICD codes, reconcile current medication list, perform pill counts, and enter PQRS codes.
  • Obtain and record patients’ vital signs in the medical health records software.
  • Complete letter out referrals for orders.
  • Send messages for prior authorizations for back braces.
  • Schedule patients’ next appointments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, cardiac arrhythmia recognition and complications related to sedation/analgesia medications.
  • Assess total patient care requirements before, during and after administration of sedation/analgesic medication.
  • Understand principles of oxygen delivery, respiratory physiology, transport/uptake and demonstrate the ability to use oxygen delivery devices.
  • Recognize potential complications of sedation/analgesia for each type of agent being administered.
  • Assess, diagnose and intervene in the event of complications or undesired outcomes to institute nursing interventions in compliance with orders (including standing orders) and institutional protocols.
