The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Elective Surgery Unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) applies the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. This role involves effectively communicating pertinent patient/family information to the healthcare team, collaborating in establishing patient goals, and evaluating progress to ensure effective outcomes. The RN will also further professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to Board of Nursing standards. This is a PRN position requiring 3 shifts in a six-week scheduling period. The role is on a BRAND NEW 17-bed unit opening 6/25/26, focusing on fast-paced, specialized post-surgical care for adult patients (18-100) admitted for planned, elective surgical procedures across multiple specialties. Patient care is focused on rapid mobilization, pain management, and discharge readiness, with a typical length of stay of 24 hours to 2-3 days, creating a predictable, structured workflow. This is an Inpatient unit, not a surgery center opportunity.
