About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting and fosters patient- and family-centered care. The nurse demonstrates clinical competency through evidence-based practice across assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes, while incorporating safety protocols, cost containment, and quality improvement. The position requires compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, and care within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Staff may be scheduled to work weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts. The role is in the 21-bed Stepdown Unit at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, which manages trauma, pulmonary, neurology, and internal medicine patients, including those with injuries, acute respiratory failure, sepsis, and strokes. The unit has a 3:1 patient-to-nurse ratio. The nurse assesses patients, develops and updates individualized care plans with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary team members, provides and coordinates direct care, delegates tasks appropriately, monitors care quality and patient safety, and evaluates outcomes. The nurse also supports discharge planning and continuity of care, educates patients and families, documents and communicates pertinent information, participates in performance-improvement activities, and maintains professional competency and licensure.
