About The Position

Sentara is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the High-Risk Labor & Delivery Unit at Norfolk General Hospital, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time, night shift position. The unit is the only Labor & Delivery unit in the region to receive the Beacon Award for Excellence. It offers a fast-paced, high-acuity, and rewarding practice, supporting comprehensive surgical and obstetrical care. Nurses are cross-trained to scrub, circulate, recover, and labor/deliver. The role involves working with a collaborative team of physicians, resident physicians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, surgical techs, and administrative staff to deliver patient-centered care. As a teaching hospital, there are hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship, and professional growth. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice and professional performance encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Requirements

  • RN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN or Compact Multi-State License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
  • NRP within 6 months of hire
  • PALS within 6 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
  • Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire
  • Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire
  • Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire
  • Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire
  • Previous L & D experience STRONGLY PREFERRED
  • Experienced RN's with a passion for women's health STRONGLY PREFERRED

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
