Sentara is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the High-Risk Labor & Delivery Unit at Norfolk General Hospital, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time, night shift position. The Labor and Delivery unit is the only one in the region to receive the Beacon Award for Excellence. It is a fast-paced, high-acuity, and rewarding practice where nurses are cross-trained to scrub, circulate, recover, and labor/deliver, providing comprehensive surgical and obstetrical care. The unit is supported by a collaborative team of physicians, resident physicians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, surgical techs, and administrative staff, delivering seamless, patient-centered care. As a teaching hospital, there are hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship, and professional growth. Many staff members have long careers at this facility, reflecting a supportive culture where every role is valued. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
