The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neurosurgery Operating Room circulates and coordinates the surgical team in all aspects of operating room activities, providing optimum perioperative nursing care to patients. The RN may be asked to scrub as needed and functions as the patient’s advocate. The Jacksonville hospital has 34 operating rooms, including an IMRI OR suite and a dedicated endovascular OR suite, and uses modern equipment and advanced technologies. The RN coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The role supports professional nursing practice across settings and throughout the continuum of care. Within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, the RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of nursing care for assigned patients, with the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice providing the basis for practice. The RN provides leadership through precepting, formal and informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are expected; the RN may also participate in committees or projects. The position is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification. Applicants without operating room experience may consider the Periop 101 program. An upcoming cohort date is to be determined and may be in early or mid-2027. Applicants must live within a reasonable driving distance of campus to meet the 45-minute on-call requirement.
