About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) on the 4A Advanced Cardiac Unit is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care to an adult/geriatric telemetry population with a focus on Acute Chest Pain Syndrome. This role serves as a primary source for patients post-cardiac procedures such as stents, pacemakers, and diagnostic catheterizations, as well as managing downgraded Code Heart patients from the ICU. The RN will also manage patients requiring external defibrillator devices. This position requires adherence to the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy, along with compliance with the FH Compliance Program, regulatory requirements, and Standards of Behavior. The RN will independently provide patient care using the nursing process, perform leadership and teaching duties, and support continuous quality improvement activities, functioning within state and federal licensing, regulatory bodies, and hospital policies.

Requirements

  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or a compact state.
  • Associates degree in Nursing required.
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • BLS certification is required of ALL nurses within 90-days of hire.
  • ACLS certification required for Telemetry units (4B, 4A, 4G, 2G) within 1 year of hire.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups: Neonate (0-30 days), Infant (31-12 months), Child (13 months-12 years), Adolescent (13-17 years), Adult (18-65 years), Geriatric (66+ years).
  • Ability to use technology and equipment to perform job duties.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective use of proper body mechanics when handling patients, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ability to handle a physically demanding environment.
  • Skills and abilities to perform all job description duties according to the age-specific patient population served by their department.
  • Ability to meet the requirements annually of the FH Clinical Ladder.
  • Ability to keep patient and employee information confidential.
  • Competency in operating equipment required to meet patient care needs.

  • Assesses the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs of patients according to nursing standards.

  • Communicates pertinent information to patients and healthcare team members concisely and timely using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Ensures patients and families are updated on patient status and any changes to the plan of care.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in patient assignments based on skill mix and patient care demands.
  • Evaluates nursing care, including tools and equipment related to patient care.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and documents the effectiveness of interventions, modifying the plan of care as needed.
  • Evaluates new and existing equipment, policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Anticipates patient responses to interventions and collaborates with patient/family and healthcare team to revise treatment plans.
  • Identifies variances from expected outcomes and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Provides patient and family education, assessing current knowledge, barriers to learning, readiness, willingness, ability to learn, and cultural/religious/financial preferences.
  • Identifies learning needs and establishes goals using standardized or individualized teaching plans.
  • Implements the teaching plan through direct, interactive teaching, utilizing teaching aids and materials.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Communicates patient/family progress toward learning goals and need for follow-up to other nurses and healthcare disciplines.
  • Integrates discharge planning and referral into the teaching process.
  • Documents teaching per policy.
  • Independently offers support to less experienced staff in patient/family teaching.
  • Demonstrates professional expectations by incorporating suggestions for self-development and performance into daily practice.
  • Meets all requirements of clinical ladder level.
  • Actively engages in department efforts to promote staff retention and employee morale.
  • Utilizes supplies, equipment, and technology to ensure quality patient care.
  • Floats to other nursing units in the hospital as requested.
  • Demonstrates leadership and accountability qualities.
  • Consistently utilizes a communication style that sets a positive professional tone.
  • Promotes meaningful focused communication between all members of the healthcare team.
  • Encourages professional interactions between ancillary healthcare givers, including physicians.
  • Demonstrates effective delegation skills pertaining to nursing staff in delivering safe nursing care and communication to peers.
  • Demonstrates effective precepting and mentoring skills for RNs and ancillary staff.
  • Adheres to program policies and participates in effective department orientation.
  • Demonstrates accountability for reviewing Quality Assurance reports/data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Contributes to the evaluation/auditing process for CNAs, Technicians, and peers.
  • Completes all hospital-wide and department-specific competencies.
