About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department at Lorain Hospital. It is a collective bargaining unit position. The role involves functioning as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, directing care for a team of patients. The nursing care provided reflects independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs. The nurse must demonstrate competencies in the use of all equipment utilized in the care of patient age groups as indicated. This role is the entry step to the Mercy (CHP) Clinical Ladder, with one year to progress to the CN II level. The job description also outlines the responsibilities and requirements for a Clinical Nurse II (CN II), which is the competent Staff Nurse level and the second step of the Mercy (MERCY) Clinical Ladder. The CN II also functions as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, directs patient care, demonstrates clinical competency, nursing leadership, and precepts new employees as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a state-accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure from the state of Ohio as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Successful completion of general and unit-specific orientation and hospital probationary period.
  • Completes Orientation Checklist.
  • Obtains/maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of continuing education annually which includes Fire Safety & CPR/BLS Recertification.
  • Theoretical knowledge combined with beginning level clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients (for CN I).
  • Theoretical knowledge combined with clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients (for CN II).
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing with people of varying backgrounds.
  • ACLS is required (for CN II).

Responsibilities
