About The Position

This is a collective bargaining unit position for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department at Lorain Hospital. The role involves functioning as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, directing patient care, and utilizing a Clinical Nurse II (CN II) as a resource. The nursing care provided reflects independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs. The nurse demonstrates competencies in using all necessary equipment for various patient age groups. A Clinical Nurse I (CN I) is the entry step to the Mercy (CHP) Clinical Ladder, with one year to progress to the CN II level. The Clinical Nurse II (CN II) also functions as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, directing patient care for a team of patients. This role demonstrates clinical competency, nursing leadership, and coordinates nursing care. The CN II precepts new employees as assigned and demonstrates competencies in equipment use. A CN II is the second step of the Mercy (MERCY) Clinical Ladder and represents the competent Staff Nurse level.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a state-accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure from the state of Ohio as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Successful completion of general and unit-specific orientation and hospital probationary period.
  • Completes Orientation Checklist.
  • Obtains/maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of continuing education annually which includes Fire Safety & CPR/BLS Recertification.
  • ACLS is required (for CN II).
  • Must have theoretical knowledge combined with beginning level clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients (for CN I).
  • Must have theoretical knowledge combined with clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients (for CN II).
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with people of varying backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress to the CN II level within one year (for CN I).

  • Receiving direct instructions from Charge Nurse or Director (for CN II).
  • Supervising Licensed Practical Nurses and Patient Care Assistants.
