About The Position
Rivers Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Med/Surg department. The role provides patient care based on the nursing process and interdisciplinary collaboration. The position includes direct patient care, medication administration, IV maintenance, documentation, patient education, and support with admissions and discharges. The employee works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse when assigned care for a group of patients according to the provided care plan, and is expected to work collaboratively with nursing staff and other disciplines. The role also supports unit cleanliness, employee orientation, cross-training to other units, quality-improvement activities, and a team-oriented environment. The employee must complete annual competencies and comply with hospital and corporate policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Graduate from a school for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Currently licensed in the state of West Virginia.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care.
- Administer oral, intramuscular, and IV medications safely and promptly, and accurately document medication administration.
- Safeguard medications and narcotics.
- Start and assist with maintenance of IVs.
- Document care accurately.
- Assist with patient education in collaboration with other disciplines.
- Assist with unit cleanliness.
- Assist with admission and discharge assessments.
- Respect patient privacy, rights, and individual values, and provide care accordingly.
- Provide assigned care to a group of patients according to the registered nurse's care plan and under the registered nurse's direct supervision.
- Report observations and pertinent information to the registered nurse and work closely and harmoniously with the registered nurse.
- Assist in orienting new employees.
- Administer nursing care safely and promptly in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and philosophy.
- Complete annual competencies.
- Comply with corporate policies, departmental policies and procedures, and the Personnel Employee Handbook.
- Cross-train to other units as needed.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Foster teamwork and collaboration and attend unit meetings.
- Participate in quality-improvement activities, including serving on quality-improvement teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
