About The Position

Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Surgical GI-Stroke Unit, 2 West. This unit holds the PRISM (Premiere Recognition in Specialty of Medical-Surgical) Distinction. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN also adheres to standards of professional performance such as ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN possesses the clinical knowledge and skills required for specific clinical areas. The patient population includes individuals with Stroke, Kidney Failure, Diabetes, those undergoing Diagnostic Testing, GI Surgical patients, Respiratory issues, and patients requiring chest tubes and trachs. The nurses on this 25-bed unit are dedicated to providing world-class care and have input into workflow decisions. The unit educator provides individualized orientation and supports ongoing professional development. New graduate nurses are welcome and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a comprehensive 6-month residency program. Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
