About The Position
Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (BBHH) is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for its Inpatient units. BBHH is a 90-bed acute psychiatric and behavioral facility offering services for children, adolescents, and adults. The RN will provide exceptional care, demonstrate sound leadership, and utilize their knowledge of treatment procedures, abnormal psychology, and psychotropic medications. The role involves organizing unit activities, providing patient care, and potentially facilitating groups. A strong understanding of human behavior, psychiatry, and psychology is essential.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Current California RN License
- Current CPR certification (or obtained prior to start date)
- Previous experience in a mental healthcare hospital environment focusing on human behavior, psychiatry, psychology, or other mental healthcare situations is preferred and will move the application to the shortlist.

- Basic teaching and training skills
- Fluency in medical terminology in psychiatric care
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent care to patients in the Inpatient units.
- Demonstrate sound leadership skills in organizing medical and/or non-medical tasks on the unit.
- Showcase high-quality clinical and interpersonal skills.
- Apply basic knowledge of treatment procedures and interventions common to acute psychotic and non-violent crisis intervention.
- Utilize basic knowledge of abnormal psychology and its application to patient care.
- Manage the use of psychotropic medications.
- Employ problem-solving and crisis intervention skills.
- Communicate effectively in written and oral English.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate process-oriented and didactic groups.
- Maintain situational awareness crucial for patient outcomes.
- Adhere to the CARES values system in all patient care.
