About The Position

San Marcos Treatment Center is a 212-bed, seclusion-free, psychiatric residential treatment facility located between Austin and San Antonio in Central Texas. The facility spans 65 acres and provides 24-hour psychiatric care to girls and boys ages 6 to 17, utilizing customized therapeutic approaches and intensive behavioral programs. The Registered Nurse (RN) position is under the supervision of the Director of Nursing. The RN provides physical assessments of patients, implements treatment plans, evaluates response to treatment, provides complete documentation, administers medications as prescribed, and offers health care education for patients and families. The RN also serves as the shift supervisor for Mental Health Techs and LVN staff, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. Responsibilities include providing direct patient care and management of children, adolescent, and young adult patients, assuring safety, supervision, and crisis management, providing assessment and medical management, and assisting in the management of a therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Texas professional Nurse License
  • Current driver license
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information
  • Demonstrates effective organization
  • Develops and implements patient care services within discipline
  • Must consistently exhibit mental ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job
  • Ability to initiate and implement all phases of the nursing process
  • Ability to provide safe nursing care
  • Understanding patient rights
  • Basic supervisory skills

Nice To Haves

  • One year psychiatric / neuropsychiatric experience with adolescents and / or young adults in a long term hospital or residential setting preferred
