Highland Hospital is opening a new 20-bed Acute Medicine Unit on East 5 in November 2026. This unit will provide timely, compassionate, high-quality acute care to patients arriving from the ED. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing services for patients and their families, collaborating with other healthcare providers to achieve expected patient outcomes and improve the care environment. Nurses utilize the nursing process and evidence-based practice to coordinate and provide direct care. All positions function within five core performance domains: Clinical Practice, Service Excellence, Professional Development and Communication/Behaviors, and Research/Evidence-Based Practice. The Level I Registered Nurse (RN) is a new graduate with an Associate Degree (AD) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) who is completing the Nursing Practice Orientation Program with 6 months or less of clinical experience post-licensure. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Level I nurse provides direct care to assigned patients using the nursing process, supports peers, prioritizes safety, and contributes to unit activities that enhance patient care outcomes. Advancement to Level II RN occurs after a successful six-month evaluation.
