The Charge Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the daily nursing activities performed by nursing assistants and certified medication aides. This supervision must align with current Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, ensuring quality patient care consistent with the organization's philosophy and objectives. The position offers direct operational support for the department on a shift basis, acting as a clinical resource for staff and a liaison between staff and management. It assists the DON and/or ADON in determining staffing needs and identifying problems within the nursing department. The role serves as a resource for staff in patient care assessment and planning nursing interventions, facilitating problem resolution, and collaborating with the DON and/or ADON in assessing care quality, identifying staff strengths and weaknesses, and evaluating staff performance. Operational issues are identified and addressed by this position, which also interfaces with physicians and interdisciplinary teams for comprehensive care planning.
