About The Position

Physicians East, P.A. is a team of skilled healthcare professionals united to meet the challenge of delivering quality, cost-efficient, comprehensive healthcare to the people of Eastern North Carolina. This full-time position is based at our Greenville (other) location in the Quadrangle Endoscopy Center, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care of, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. The role involves actively participating and executing patient care in the Pre-Operative and Recovery setting, as well as assisting with GI and Pulmonary procedures in the Ambulatory Surgical Center environment. The candidate must assess patients, plan, implement, evaluate, and record professional nursing care given to patients, and supervise care administered by other members of the health team to post-anesthetic patients. The candidate must also be able to respond to emergency, life-threatening situations that may arise post anesthesia.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Licensed by the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. If licensed out of state, the candidate must qualify for reciprocity in North Carolina.
  • Experience as a Registered Nurse and strong knowledge of surgical procedures, policies, and protocols.
  • CPR and ACLS certified.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, supervises, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of each patient in the ASC setting.
  • Greets and identifies patient in pre-procedure/recovery area. Has patient identify him/herself, checks armband identification and chart, ensuring match.
  • Prepares patient for a procedure by obtaining vital signs and informed consent. Assists patient in disrobing and gowning. Comforts and reassures patient prior to procedure.
  • Determines that patient record is complete prior to the procedure.
  • Sets up all equipment and supplies, checks monitor, light source, printer, and suction for proper working order.
  • Positions patient as indicated, paying attention to any previous restrictions of movement the patient may have that would jeopardize said position.
  • Correctly places blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, nasal cannula, and cautery pad (when indicated) on patient.
  • Monitors the patient when medication is given and assesses patient's physiological and psychological needs and responses.
  • Assist physician and administers patient care in the Procedure Room. Provides necessary equipment for procedure. Secures appropriate supplies for procedure. Prepares pathology specimens for transfer to lab with appropriate information.
  • Assists in transport of patient via stretcher to Recovery Room.
  • Provides post-procedure nursing care to a patient recovering from sedation. Continually evaluates patient's vital signs and physical status and alerts physician of adverse reactions or complications and appropriately responds with nursing intervention techniques. Provides for a safe and concerned environment for the well-being of the patient in the post-procedure period.
  • Assists patient in preparing for discharge and determines that the patient's record is complete and that the patient is informed of correct procedure and instructions to follow at home.
  • Administers medications, oral, injection, or intravenous, as prescribed by a physician.
  • Establishes intravenous access for the purpose of administering intravenous fluids, intravenous medications, or for obtaining blood samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Charts pertinent patient information in the nurse's notes.
  • Always maintaining patient privacy and confidentially.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, Operations Manager, and/or Physician.
