About The Position

This position is located in the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division and is responsible, with the medical provider, for ensuring the delivery of health care in a timely and clinically appropriate manner to inmates and or staff. Ensures those served receive consistent and high-quality care in accordance with established local, federal and, state policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines. Provides professional medical care to inmates based on their specific needs.

Requirements

Knowledge of the principles and practices, theories, laws and authorities of corrections nursing, professional nursing, and medicine.
Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic and preventative techniques.
Knowledge of pharmacology.
Knowledge of communicable disease follow up and interventions.
Knowledge of immunizations.
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment used in patient care.
Knowledge of community resources.
Knowledge of health care records management.
Knowledge of interpersonal relations.
Knowledge of health education and counseling.
Knowledge of Detention Center policy and procedures.
Knowledge of inmate rights.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions.
Ability to apply knowledge.
Ability to maintain accurate medical charts and records.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Excellent verbal and written skills.
Requires use of a variety of medical equipment and tools.
Valid driver’s license issued by the state of Montana.
Provide own transportation to conduct out of office job duties.
Must be insurable under the County’s liability policies.
Must pass a criminal history check and background investigation.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
Certification at a minimum as a RN.
Two (2) years of job-related work experience.
Licensure granted by Montana State Board of Nursing or equivalent.
