About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Health, the Registered Nurse provides comprehensive healthcare services to the members of the Haisla Nation with a focus on both clinical care and home-based services. This includes the delivery of high-quality nursing care, promoting and maintaining health and wellness within the community, and supporting individuals and families in managing their health conditions. To ensure a culturally safe and client-focused care, the Registered Nurse works closely with community members, knowledge keepers, families, and other healthcare providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
  • Current registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
  • 3 to 5 years of recent experience as a registered nurse, preferably in community health, public health, or home care settings.
  • Current First Aid and CPR.
  • Excellent clinical skills in assessment, chronic disease management, wound care, and health education.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload, including providing nursing care in diverse settings.
  • Ability to act swiftly and decisively in crisis situations, ensuring effective and efficient response.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to handle complex and emotionally challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with attention to detail when reviewing health details and writing reports.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and patient with a strong commitment to supporting the well-being of the community members.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and various databases, search engines and Outlook/email.
  • Valid BC driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if relevant).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working for a band government or Indigenous organization is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the language, history and culture of the Haisla Nation is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct in-home nursing care and support for homebound patients or patients who require additional care.
  • Support Registered Nurse in clinical tasks, including comprehensive health assessments and health checks; health education; treatment plans; administration of medications and vaccinations; and pain-management.
  • Assist Registered Nurse with managing chronic health conditions, providing education and support to patients and families.
  • Assist with prenatal and postnatal screening and support services.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurse, patients and their families to create and implement individualized care plans that promote independence and increase the quality of life.
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, patient care aids and social workers to coordinate comprehensive care.
  • Provide emergency care and support in the event of a community health crisis, natural disasters, or other emergencies.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness training and planning.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all nursing assessments, treatments, care plans, progress notes and patient interactions in accordance with professional standards and organizational policies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and community members.
  • Develop and promote health promotion programs addressing the needs of the community.
  • Advocate for the healthcare needs of the community, ensuring equitable access to services and resources.
  • Engage in on-going professional development to stay current with best practices in nursing, including attending workshops, obtaining certifications, and participating in training programs relevant to community health and culturally responsive care.
  • Ensure compliance with the Haisla Nation Council’s policies, ethical standards, and legal requirements.
