About The Position

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join its Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), an academic medical center unit in Northern Virginia with Magnet designation, an AACN Silver Beacon Award, and national recognition for excellence. The full-time position works three 12-hour shifts with a day/night rotation. Sign-on and relocation bonuses are available for qualified external candidates. The CICU is a fast-paced cardiac critical care environment focused on teamwork, excellent patient care, and learning opportunities that support professional growth. Nurses collaborate with cardiac and medical intensivists, interventionalists, cardiologists, cardiology fellows, and advanced practice providers. The unit cares for patients with complex cardiac and pulmonary conditions, including unstable STEMI and post-PCI/PTCA recovery; cardiac arrest and cardiogenic shock; pre-heart and pre-lung transplant needs; advanced heart failure, including LVAD management; unstable arrhythmias and pacemaker/AICD procedures; and pulmonary hypertension requiring advanced therapies. Care may involve therapeutic hypothermia, CRRT, VV and VA ECMO, Impella, IABP, and intravenous prostacyclin therapy. Minimum qualifications include one year of registered nursing experience in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship; a BSN from an accredited nursing school (ADN-prepared nurses must complete a BSN within five years of their start date); BLS certification from the AHA; and an RN license or eligibility to practice in Virginia. ACLS must be obtained within six months of hire.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting, or completion of a critical care fellowship.
BSN from an accredited school of nursing. Nurses with an Associate's Degree (ADN) must complete a BSN within 5 years of their start date.
BLS for healthcare provider certification from the AHA.
RN license or eligibility to practice as an RN in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Must obtain ACLS within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

2 or more years of ICU RN experience and a BSN.
CCRN certification.
Participation in unit-based or hospital committees.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to patients in a fast-paced cardiac critical care setting.
Care for patients with unstable STEMI and support post-PCI/PTCA recovery; serve as a campus STEMI responder.
Manage complex cardiac arrest and cardiogenic shock cases, including therapies such as therapeutic hypothermia, CRRT, VV and VA ECMO, Impella, and IABP.
Support complex medical and mechanical circulatory care for pre-heart and pre-lung transplant patients before surgery.
Provide care for patients with advanced heart failure, including LVAD management.
Manage unstable arrhythmias and care associated with laser-assisted lead removal, PPM/AICD replacement, and transvenous pacemakers.
Provide care involving advanced pulmonary hypertension therapies, including intravenous prostacyclin therapy.
Collaborate with intensivists, interventionalists, cardiologists, cardiology fellows, and advanced practice providers.
