About The Position

This role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) working full-time night shifts. The position involves participating in peer interviewing, considering factors like safety and cost in nursing care delivery, and collecting patient and unit data for process improvement. The RN will conduct initial patient assessments, initiate consults, and identify patient/family teaching and discharge planning needs. Maintaining safe practices through clinical competency and regulatory compliance, ensuring safe handoff communications, and courteous interaction with internal and external customers are key responsibilities. The role also includes demonstrating respect for co-workers, participating in hourly rounding using the AIDET technique, incorporating Caring Model behaviors and culturally competent care, and adhering to organizational standards for dress and professional appearance. Collaboration and teamwork are essential for managing patient flow and promoting timely patient placement. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficient clinical critical care skills and critical thinking skills with strong communication skills required.
  • Basic computer skills and commitment to hourly patient rounding required.
  • Must possess frequent independent judgment and the ability to handle clinical situations requiring sound professional judgment and critical-thinking skills, including clinical assessment, data analysis, and patient response.
  • Responsible for providing quality patient care and continuously prioritizing multiple duties.
  • Ability to function calmly and professionally during stressful situations.
  • Utilization of assessment, reassessment, and critical-thinking skills in dealing with changes in patient outcomes.
  • General knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques, as well as the pharmacological process in the appropriate administration or delivery of medications.
  • Skill to maintain effective working relationships with health professionals and others to foster an environment conducive to carrying out the mission of the facility.
  • Skill to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, to direct the overall professional nursing services in a manner that encourages the open exchange of ideas and information.

  • Previous EKG Interpretation Class preferred.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) Preferred
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Cert (PALS) [Preferred]
  • Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) [Preferred]

Responsibilities

  • Participates in peer interviewing and review processes.
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the delivery of nursing services.
  • Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health and unit-specific data for process improvement initiatives.
  • Conducts initial patient assessments within expected timeframes, initiates consults as indicated, and identifies patient/family teaching and discharge planning needs.
  • Maintains safe practices by demonstrating unit-specific clinical competency and compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Ensures safe and effective handoff communications and documentation between caregivers.
  • Communicates courteously with internal and external customers in person or on the telephone.
  • Demonstrates respect for co-workers and develops positive working relationships with other departments.
  • Participates in hourly rounding using the Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You (AIDET) technique to improve patient outcomes.
  • Incorporates Caring Model behaviors and culturally competent care into daily practice.
  • Adheres to organizational standards for dress and professional appearance.
  • Collaborates and demonstrates teamwork in managing patient flow, promoting timely patient placement by following hospital policy for admission, discharge, and transfer.
  • Other duties as assigned.
