Community Health Systems•Poplar Bluff, MO

About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient-centered care to intermediate- and higher-acuity patients in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The role uses the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to coordinate and deliver high-quality care based on clinical protocols and provider orders. PCU patients may have cardiac, respiratory, neurological, or complex medical conditions and require closer monitoring than patients on a traditional medical/surgical unit. The RN monitors patient status, administers medications and treatments, collaborates with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team, and responds to changes in condition. The nurse also supports patients and families through education and advocacy while promoting safe, compassionate care. The PCU is described as a fast-paced environment with opportunities to strengthen critical-care skills and build relationships with patients and families. The unit’s Director is described as supportive and committed to collaboration, professional growth, and a positive culture.
