This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Mary Brigh 5CF (MB5CF), Cardiovascular Surgery (Progressive Care) unit. This surgical cardiovascular progressive unit serves adult and pediatric patients. All patient rooms are equipped with ECG monitoring, and rhythm identification and interpretation are key responsibilities of the nursing staff. Additional monitoring services include SpO2 monitoring, non-invasive blood pressure, and arrhythmia detection. The unit has 37 beds. The nursing team's roles encompass pulmonary care, promoting patient independence in activities of daily living, providing emotional support, and conducting extensive patient education and discharge planning. The nursing process is utilized along with a primary care delivery system. The patient census typically includes individuals undergoing coronary bypass grafts, valve repair/replacements, left ventricular assist device procedures, and congenital anomaly repairs, drawing clients locally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally, medical-surgical patients requiring ECG monitoring are placed on MB5CF. The registered nurse is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across various settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs. The RN will operate within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice serve as the foundation for the RN's practice. RNs provide leadership through activities such as preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. Delegation of patient care is based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. The RN is expected to possess excellent communication skills, be proficient in mentoring and teaching, and may participate in committees or projects.
