About The Position

The Registered Nurse will proactively participate as a team member in support of the total endoscopy process. This role involves organizing time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management. The nurse will supervise and direct patient care in the endoscopy room, verify patient procedures prior to transport, and participate in time-outs and safe surgery checklists. Key responsibilities include organizing nursing activities, delegating tasks appropriately, and considering cost containment through economical supply use and efficient turnover time. The nurse will also assist with inventories, address patient needs specific to endoscopy procedures, and transport patients as needed while observing safety requirements. Patient identification, review of medical records for continuity of care, and communication of variances are crucial. Providing comfort, reassurance, and maintaining patient privacy and dignity are essential. The nurse will explain procedures and the plan of care to patients and collaborate with the healthcare team to prepare the procedure room with necessary equipment, supplies, and instruments.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED certification
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • RN with active license in appropriate state
  • CPR certification
  • IV conscious sedation training
  • Endoscopy experience
  • Evidence of leadership qualities
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English

  • Computer literacy

Responsibilities

  • Proactively participates as a team member in support of the total endoscopy process

  • Transports patients to the endoscopy room, as needed, observing policies, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Using two patient identifiers, identifies the patient and correct procedure, according to policy and procedures and communicates with the healthcare team
  • Reviews patient’s medical record and needs to provide continuity of care, collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team; communicates variances appropriately to other healthcare team members
  • Provides comfort and reassurance to patient
  • Maintains patient’s privacy and dignity
  • Explains procedure(s) and plan of care to the patient
  • Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the procedure room according to requirements of patient, physician, and procedure to includes, but not be limited to assembling and providing properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments
