About The Position

Under limited supervision, provides direct patient care. Plans, directs, and evaluates total nursing care for Med-Surg patients as directed. Relates effectively with other shifts for continuity of care and maintains satisfactory relations with other departments. This role involves providing the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit, including giving direct patient care. The nurse will be resourceful and calm in emergencies, keeping physicians, nurses, and other staff informed of patient needs and problems on the unit. They will utilize gathered data to determine priorities for patients’ physical, psychological, educational, and discharge needs in formulating the plan of care, and identify problems and guide personnel to their solution. A key aspect is creating a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction for coworkers. The role requires administering medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly, maintaining standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting, and ensuring needed supplies and equipment are available. Nursing interventions are carried out safely and accurately, utilizing knowledge, judgment, and skill to implement physicians’ orders and the nursing plan of care. Patient/family responses to the plan of care are evaluated, and the plan is modified accordingly. The nurse will prioritize workload and perform documentation accurately, concisely, and in a timely manner, demonstrating effective communication skills. Support and enforcement of infection control policies and procedures, participation in orientation and in-service training, and maintaining professional patient confidentiality are also essential. The position requires displaying concern and initiative, observing and supporting hospital policies, procedures, and skills, and being prompt and efficient with minimal absences. Cooperation and maintenance of good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, patients, and visitors are expected. The nurse will work independently with limited direct supervision, using the Nurse Practice Act, LCHC policies, nursing standards, and professional judgment. This position works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled, and attends meetings and in-services as required. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 2 year acute care experience
  • Healthcare Provider BLS certification
  • Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS certification preferred
