About The Position

The Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, high-quality nursing care to adult patients receiving oncology and non-oncology infusion therapies in an outpatient infusion center. This role supports the delivery of complex infusion treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, hydration, blood products, and other IV medications. The RN works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes while maintaining regulatory and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
  • Current, unrestricted New York Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Current ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe)
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of recent RN experience in an infusion center, oncology, hematology, or related acute care setting
  • Demonstrated experience administering IV medications and managing vascular access

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) preferred
  • Experience with both oncology and non-oncology infusion therapies
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and computerized provider order entry (CPOE)

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments prior to, during, and after infusion therapy to ensure patient safety and treatment readiness.
  • Safely administer oncology and non-oncology infusion therapies, including but not limited to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, monoclonal antibodies, hydration, antibiotics, blood products, and supportive care medications.
  • Monitor patients for infusion-related reactions and adverse events; initiate appropriate interventions and escalate care as necessary.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of symptom management specific to oncology issues.
  • Demonstrate competency in the administration of high-risk medications and adherence to established protocols, policies, and evidence-based standards (e.g., ONS guidelines).
  • Manage vascular access devices including peripheral IVs, implanted ports, PICC lines, and central venous catheters.
  • Accurately document assessments, medication administration, patient responses, and education in the electronic health record.
  • Verify medication orders, dosing, and laboratory parameters according to clinical protocols and safety standards.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety regulations, and organizational policies, including regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on treatment plans, medication side effects, symptom management, and post-infusion care.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacy, and infusion center staff to coordinate patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain required competencies and certifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
