About The Position

San Marcos Treatment Center is a 212-bed, seclusion-free, psychiatric residential treatment facility located between Austin and San Antonio, Texas. The facility spans 65 acres and includes 13 living units separated by gender, age, and developmental levels, along with recreational facilities like swimming pools, gymnasiums, a sports court, playing fields, a ropes course, canteen, social area, and a healing trail. San Marcos Treatment Center provides 24-hour psychiatric care to girls and boys aged 6 to 17, utilizing customized therapeutic approaches and intensive behavioral programs to help young patients moderate their behavior, manage emotions, and improve social functioning. This specific role is for Registered Nurses (RNs) to work weekends with the adolescent population. Weekend shifts are Saturday and Sunday from 6 AM to 10 PM each day. The RN, under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, performs physical assessments, implements treatment plans, evaluates patient responses, maintains documentation, administers medications, and provides health care education. The RN also serves as the shift supervisor for Mental Health Techs and LVN staff, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. Direct patient care and management of children, adolescent, and young adult patients are provided as prescribed by the physician and treatment team, including ensuring safety, supervision, and crisis management. The role involves assessment and medical management of patients, and assisting in the management of a therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Texas professional Nurse License.
  • Current driver license.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • Demonstrates effective organization.
  • Develops and implements patient care services within discipline.
  • Must consistently exhibit mental ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to initiate and implement all phases of the nursing process.
  • Ability to provide safe nursing care.
  • Understanding patient rights.
  • Basic supervisory skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One year psychiatric / neuropsychiatric experience with adolescents and / or young adults in a long term hospital or residential setting preferred.

Responsibilities
