About The Position

The Registered Professional Nurse manages, delegates, coordinates, and provides nursing care using the nursing process and effective communication with patients, their significant others, and the multidisciplinary health care team. Within the scope of practice, the nurse may assess, treat, and care for patients of all ages, from neonates to geriatric patients, taking developmental needs and cognitive, biopsychosocial, religious, cultural, and aging processes into account. The nurse is accountable for maintaining clinical competence and meeting defined standards of care for the area of practice. This role is in the Emergency Department in Nyack, New York. The work shift is nights, with varying nights and weekend and holiday work. Scheduled hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.; scheduled daily hours are 11.5, and the position is scheduled for 37.5 hours per pay period. The hourly rate/range is listed as 0, with the displayed hiring rate potentially subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education, or other relevant factors. The nurse is expected to provide safe, patient-centered care; communicate effectively and courteously; participate in quality and performance improvement; maintain professional knowledge and required credentials; use supplies and equipment prudently; and uphold Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s “We Care” standards.

Requirements

Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
One year of Med/Surg experience preferred.
Registered Nurse credential from the New York State Board of Nursing required.
BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required.
For the ED, ACLS certification from the American Heart Association is required within six months of hire or transfer.
For the ED, PALS certification from the American Heart Association is required within six months of hire or transfer.
Comply with the hospital’s licensure and certification requirements and participate in annual competency assessment.
For transfer requirements, refer to the NYSNA collective bargaining agreement.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
One year of Med/Surg experience preferred.
National certification in the area of practice preferred.

Responsibilities

Systematically provide nursing care within the framework of the nursing process and established standards of practice.
Integrate patient safety principles into direct nursing care and medication management.
Adhere to system-wide communication standards and processes.
Participate in designated forums addressing patient care, patient education, policies and procedures, safety, and clinical outcomes.
Maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills related to the area of practice, and document age-specific competency on the addendum.
Create positive customer interactions and communicate positively with people of different cultures, values, and beliefs.
Acknowledge customer concerns and take corrective action; comply with customer service behaviors and escort customers when necessary.
Participate in department- and hospital-wide activities that improve processes or outcomes.
Use resources to maintain and improve self-development and knowledge; comply with licensure and certification requirements and participate in annual competency assessment.
Use equipment and supplies in a fiscally prudent manner and follow the charge process for supplies and equipment.
Complete projects and assignments within projected time frames and expectations.
Work courteously and respectfully with colleagues, prioritize team success, welcome new ideas, and offer assistance.
Take accountability for work, see projects through, problem-solve with patients, families, and coworkers, and follow up to ensure resolution.
Communicate clearly and courteously with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers, including using AIDET principles and responding to email courteously within 24 hours.

Assist patients, guests, and new employees with directions or escorts when needed.
