About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in the Emergency Department at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the evening shift. The role involves rapidly assessing and triaging patients, providing urgent medical care, monitoring patient conditions, communicating changes to the care team, and educating and reassuring patients and families.

Requirements

• Obtain Advanced Life Support certification within 6 months (180 days) of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Obtain BLS Provider certification within 1 month (30 days) of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Hold Registered Nurse credentials from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing before hire or job transfer, or hold a current home-state license if considered a multi-state/Compact State.
• Have a diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing, or the required professional licensure at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Responsibilities

• Rapidly assess and triage patients upon arrival, prioritize care according to the severity of injuries or illnesses, and initiate immediate interventions when necessary.
• Provide urgent medical care, including administering medications, starting IV lines, performing wound care, and assisting with CPR and trauma resuscitation.
• Continuously monitor patients, recognize sudden changes in condition, and communicate critical information to physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, discharge instructions, and follow-up care, while offering reassurance during high-stress situations.
