About The Position

The Registered Nurse role involves utilizing the nursing process to provide safe and effective patient care. This includes telephonic or in-person assessments, nursing diagnoses, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse will administer medications, clarify physician instructions, and explain procedures to patients and their companions. A key aspect of the role is demonstrating competence in PRE-OP & PACU patient care duties, including managing emergencies and addressing age-specific needs. The position requires maintaining and evaluating clinical expertise, embracing continuing education, and fostering a positive hospital environment through professional interactions and teamwork. Participation in committees, work groups, and meetings is expected, along with demonstrating measurable results and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team. The nurse will also be responsible for completing required competencies, obtaining necessary laboratory and diagnostic studies, and utilizing performance improvement models. Any other assigned duties are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • A current, valid RN license in state of practice or equivalent per state regulations.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • The job holder must demonstrate current competencies for job position.
  • Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interactions relative to the specific age of a patient.
  • Knowledge and understanding of disease processes and perioperative care.
  • Knowledge of hospital organization, universal precautions, and maintenance of a safe environment.
  • Skills validation/certification of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of a perioperative teammates, including the maintaining annual skill maintenance requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing and the skill of listening.
  • Skills required to provide excellent customer service not only to our patients, but physicians, visitors, and other health care teammates, promoting a positive work environment.
  • Must have a strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long arduous work hours.
  • Ability to work in an environment that frequently produces a high level of stress and mental fatigue, and a willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple work priorities and support to teammates.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Three years previous experience in acute OR setting, with at least 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the Orthopedic specialty area is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Uses nursing process including assessment (telephonic or in-person), nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, in order to provide safe effective outcomes.
  • Administers and charts medications as ordered by physician, reinforces and clarifies physician instructions and explanation of procedures to patient and companion.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position in PRE-OP & PACU patient care duties, including ability to provide for patient care in emergency situations and based upon age-specific needs utilizing a development perspective.
  • Maintains and evaluates own clinical expertise and clinical practice, demonstrates the importance of continuing education to the performance of facility responsibilities and growth in profession.
  • Maintains flexibility with scheduling and job assignments in order to cover patient needs. Ability to work in multiple perioperative areas.
  • Fosters a positive and professional hospital environment by interacting with all persons in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner and by participating as a team member.
  • Participates in committees, work groups, and meetings as deemed necessary. Can demonstrate measurable results and meet target dates. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and takes part in shared governance.
  • Has successfully complete required competencies required of position, obtains laboratory, EKG, radiology studies requested by physician and according to policy.
  • Utilizes Individual goals and KPI models to measure and report on performance improvement.
  • Performs any other duties assigned.
