The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the department’s requirements and the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Working with medical providers and other care-team members, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN advocates for patients and their families or caregivers and supports the organization’s mission, values, patient experience, and clinical outcomes. The role includes carrying out provider-ordered procedures and monitoring, documenting care promptly and thoroughly, and teaching patients and families about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures. The RN explains complex medical terminology in understandable terms, teaches non-medication measures such as healthy diet, exercise, and disease prevention, and prepares patients for future self-management. The nurse also supports evidence-based practice and continuous improvement, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate and deliver holistic treatment plans that promote recovery.
