Registered Nurse assigned primarily to St. Joseph Medical Center’s Med/Surg and Telemetry division, with required floating across the division and, when needed, Region Two facilities: St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw, and St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. The Med/Surg division includes six units: a surgical unit; a long-term, low-acuity unit; a general medical unit; a short-stay, cardiac, and COVID unit; a neuro unit; and an orthopedic and spine unit. All units use telemetry. Travelers may also be assigned to alternate Med/Surg/Telemetry areas, including the 10th-floor Med Surg Oncology unit, the ER Transition Unit, the emergency-room transition beds, the Cardiac Decision Unit, and the Med-Surg transition area. Registered Nurses take four to five patients. Nurses may be assigned as a CNA or entrance screener if needed, under the same expectations as facility staff. Nurses titrate some drips within Med/Surg guidelines; if a medication reaches its maximum, the patient is transferred to critical care. Telemetry is monitored remotely by telemetry technicians, who read strips; RNs verify the readings. The department has a charge RN on each unit and a House Supervisor from 11 a.m. to 7 a.m. Orientation includes four hours on each of the six primary Med/Surg units; alternate units are not included in orientation. The position involves 12-hour shifts, with scheduling based on staffing needs across the Med/Surg division. It requires every-other-weekend coverage, one to two winter holidays, and call/standby up to four times during the contract. Travelers must take offered breaks. No specific scrub color is required. Candidates may not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at a facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year.
