About The Position

Geisinger is hiring an Inpatient Registered Nurse for its Advanced Acute Care Medical Surgical Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. The role assesses, plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates nursing activities to meet patient needs. The nurse promotes adaptive responses by patients and families, supports safety and patient satisfaction, provides compassionate care, coordinates care and staff interactions, and helps ensure an excellent patient and family experience. The unit has 36 private rooms and serves a diverse patient population across medical, surgical, and telemetry care, with patient dialysis and telemetry capability and hospitalist service. The hospital describes itself as a small community hospital focused on high reliability, exceptional care, collaborative teamwork, and community commitment. It has received ANCC Magnet Recognition. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The schedule is 7 a.m.–7:30 p.m., with every-other-weekend and holiday requirements. The position is scheduled for 36 hours per week. Geisinger advertises a hiring incentive of up to $26,000 for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $41.41 with increased rates for experienced individuals, and shift differentials of up to $7 for evening, night, and weekend shifts.

Requirements

Graduate from a nursing specialty training program.
Licensed Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
Basic Life Support certification.
Clinical skills, communication and interpersonal communication, organizing, preceptor skills, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

Complete assessments in accordance with scope of practice and unit standards.
Address patients’ and families’ physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs throughout the continuum of care.
Formulate, coordinate, and provide a plan of care, including patient and family education, family needs, and discharge planning, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Provide direct patient care, including treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies, according to policy and procedure.
Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and revise the plan of care based on patient response.
Collaborate with physicians, ancillary personnel, and interdisciplinary team members to proactively resolve and facilitate patient needs.
Problem-solve, troubleshoot, and take corrective measures in the care and handling of equipment.
Participate in unit-based decision-making regarding the use of evidence-based practice.
Work as an accountable team member toward unit and organizational goals and metrics.
Participate in patient quality and safety education and activities intended to improve departmental and organizational quality and safety.
Coordinate patient care and staff interactions while promoting safety and patient and family satisfaction.
