About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Trauma - General Surgery unit. This is an inpatient position where nurses will care for a diverse patient population requiring specialized trauma care, including complex wound care and detailed assessments. The unit includes progressive care beds for more critical patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring. This is a fast-paced and evolving workplace that emphasizes teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. New graduates are eligible for the Med/Surg residency program, designed to help novice nurses transition to competent professionals. The residency program requires less than one year of prior acute care experience and a two-year commitment upon completion.

Requirements

Requires a Diploma, Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nursing Program.
Active New York State RN license in good standing.
Level I Applicants will have less than 6-12 months of RN experience.
Level II Applicants will have a minimum of 6-12 months of RN experience.
Nurses must have less than one-year prior experience in acute care to be eligible for the Med/Surg residency program.
Plan for a two-year commitment upon completion of the residency program.

Responsibilities

Functions as a new graduate nurse with less than one year of experience.
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, continues to build competency in the provision of direct patient care.
Contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level.
Supports peers in the delivery of patient care services.
Provides specialized trauma care including complex wound care, various types of drains, and detailed assessments.
Assumes the charge nurse role.
Actively participates in unit/service activities.
Supports co-workers.
Assesses unit needs.
