About The Position

PrimeCare Medical, Inc. is seeking dedicated Registered Nurses to provide nursing care in the medical department at the Charles County Detention Center in La Plata, Maryland. Nurses perform duties under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, ADON, DON, and HSA, and according to protocols established by the Medical Director. The role includes a two-week orientation period with on-the-job training and shadowing alongside nursing staff. The posting describes full-time evening and night shifts, both with rotating weekends. Evening hours are 2:00 PM–10:30 PM, and night hours are 10:00 PM–6:30 AM.

Requirements

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland.
Clinical decision-making ability.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to function independently and demonstrate clinical competency.
Ability to gain patients' trust and build a working relationship.

Responsibilities

Perform duties under the supervision of a Medical Director or mid-level practitioner, following protocols established by the Medical Director.
Ensure relevant inmate/patient information and unit issues are communicated to appropriate personnel.
Provide health counseling to inmates/patients.
Conduct sick calls, provide provisional diagnoses and protocol-approved treatment for selected minor illnesses and injuries, and refer cases outside the written protocol or unresponsive to treatment to an appropriate PCM Physician.
Administer immunizations, tuberculin testing, basic and advanced first aid, basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, visual acuity and telebinocular examinations, and oxygen when indicated.
Perform twelve-lead electrocardiograms and assemble results for provider interpretation.
Retrieve records and file medical information in inmate/patient medical records.
Administer treatments prescribed by a provider's verbal or written orders.
Administer oral and parenteral medications prescribed by a provider.
At the beginning of each shift, take vital signs, complete an assessment, and document findings on the dispensary card for inmates/patients housed in the medical and/or mental health unit.
