The Registered Nurse applies the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, provide patient and family education, and support continuity-of-care planning. The nurse communicates relevant information to the healthcare team, collaborates in setting patient goals, evaluates progress, and pursues professional growth through learning activities consistent with Board of Nursing standards. 9 North is a 31-bed surgical stepdown unit with a 1:4 patient ratio. The unit cares for patients requiring surgical intervention, including thoracic surgery, surgical oncology, emergency general surgery, head and neck surgery, plastics, bariatrics, colorectal surgery, and other surgical and medical services. This is a full-time night-shift position, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., three times per week for 36 hours weekly, including some weekends. The position requires at least one year of RN experience, a nursing degree, and a state or compact license. A Tennessee license is required within 60 days of obtaining a Tennessee address, even if the nurse holds a compact license. The role is based in a fast-paced, dynamic, and unpredictable unit and offers the opportunity to learn every day. Vanderbilt Health notes its Magnet designation and status as Middle Tennessee’s only nationally verified Level 1 trauma center. The nurse collaborates on plans of care, coordinates and implements care delivery, anticipates patient needs across the continuum, analyzes information to determine nursing diagnoses, evaluates progress toward goals, applies interventions, and promotes health and a safe environment. Additional duties may be assigned. Technical capabilities include care planning, patient education, patient assessment and evaluation, and evidence-based practice, at the novice proficiency level described in the posting.
