The Registered Nurse has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for delivering nursing care through the nursing process. The nurse applies competent clinical knowledge and skills, exercises independent nursing judgment, and is accountable for care provided personally and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated, with the goal of achieving quality patient outcomes. The role provides professional nursing care to patients in an inpatient hospital setting. The nurse is expected to demonstrate novice-level knowledge and skills relevant to assigned patients, apply principles of growth and development across the life span, and assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs. This is a full-time day-shift role on the 6 Southeast Medical-Surgical unit, scheduled for 36 hours per week, with a stated shift of 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. New graduate nurses with less than 12 months of experience enter the CAPE clinical advancement program at Level 1. The system-wide program supports professional development, recognizes quality clinical performance, promotes quality nursing, and aims to improve job satisfaction for inpatient direct-care nurses. Advancement levels have additional requirements for experience, education, certification, and competencies; nurses at Levels 3 through 6 must submit five competencies annually to maintain their level.
