About The Position

The professional nurse provides patient- and family-centered care by using the nursing process to address the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of a diverse patient population. The nurse develops individualized plans of care in partnership with patients and their designated care partners, respecting their priorities, cultural beliefs, and values. The role integrates evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient and family preferences, and effective communication to deliver safe, compassionate care. The nurse works within interprofessional teams, supports patient education and discharge planning, documents health information, monitors care outcomes, and contributes to ongoing quality and safety improvement. The position is based at Abington Memorial Hospital and works the night shift.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Active RN license in the state of practice; Pennsylvania RN licensure is specified for this position.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge of patient- and family-centered practice and the ability to collaborate respectfully in care and care planning.
Cultural awareness and the ability to connect respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
Effective communication skills, including the ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret information and use partnership-oriented language with patients and families.
Ability to delegate appropriately and respectfully to other team members.
Knowledge and ability to assess patients and implement treatment plans.
Ability to educate patients and designated care partners about conditions, treatment, medications, and recovery, using appropriate adult and child education techniques.
Knowledge of medications and ability to administer them and support continuing treatment.
Knowledge of post-discharge needs and ability to develop discharge plans and arrange follow-up care with patients and families.
Knowledge of patient assessment tools, nursing diagnosis, and clinical judgment.
Knowledge of health information and appropriate written or electronic documentation methods.
Ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds, including pushing or pulling patients on beds or stretchers and assisting with lateral transfers.
Frequent to continuous standing and walking; patient transporters may walk 8–10 miles per shift.
May be required to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR, depending on role.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN), or completion of a BSN or appropriate advanced degree within three years of hire, strongly preferred.
One year of previous RN experience in an acute care setting strongly preferred.

Provide safe, compassionate, coordinated care that respects patients’ preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
Promote belonging and inclusion and demonstrate problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
Pursue continued professional growth and serve as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
Participate in hospital- and practice-setting committees, including safety and quality-improvement committees.
Give and receive feedback and incorporate appropriate changes into practice.
Assess patients and implement treatment plans, administer medications, document health information, and support discharge planning and follow-up care.
