About The Position

The RN Residency program at Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals has earned the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program®(PTAP) status. The program includes classroom and simulation experiences that complement unit orientation. New graduates receive extensive support from an assigned preceptor, a clinical educator, and the Nurse Manager. A mentoring program pairs new graduates with experienced nurses to ease the transition. The average Med-Surg orientation is approximately 12 weeks. Johnson 6 is a 37-bed medical unit with private and overflow rooms, and one negative pressure room. The unit is equipped to accommodate behavioral health patients on suicide precautions, with enhanced monitoring in private rooms near the Nurse’s Station. Johnson 6 serves patients aged 16 and older with chronic medical conditions, typically ranging from 20 to 90 years old. Patient populations are admitted from various services including internal medicine, medical oncology, hospice, infectious disease, behavioral health, thoracic surgery, and renal. Common medical diagnoses include Pancreatitis, Cerebral vascular accident, Dementia, Delirium, Failure to thrive, Cancer, and Substance abuse issues. Common nursing diagnoses involve Nutritional deficit, Safety (Fall risk), Alteration in skin integrity, Alteration in body image, Cellulitis, Pain management, and Powerlessness. The unit benefits from an on-site Pharmacist during day shifts (M-F) to assist with complex pharmaceutical interventions and Provider order management, fostering collaboration for optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license
  • BCLS required

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to a diverse patient population on a medical-surgical unit.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including pharmacists, to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Manage care for patients with chronic medical conditions, including those with complex pharmaceutical needs.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and manage patients at risk for falls or other safety concerns.
  • Participate in the RN Residency program, including classroom, simulation, and unit orientation.
  • Receive and provide support through preceptor, clinical educator, and mentoring programs.
  • Manage care for patients with behavioral health needs, including those on suicide precautions.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Document patient care accurately and timely.
