The Registered Nurse will assess the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients within the health care unit and, as necessary, in the housing units. This role involves applying knowledge of available resources in obtaining a health history and in the assessment process, providing written assessments, and summarizing data to make triage decisions. The nurse will plan individual treatment programs utilizing available protocols and referral processes, and implement these programs in the health care and housing units. This includes administering medications, obtaining diagnostic tests, and implementing nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered by physicians. Documentation will be in the SOAP format, and communication with other staff, physicians, and department heads is essential. The role also requires respecting patient dignity and confidentiality. Professional expectations include assessing personal learning needs, demonstrating knowledge of nursing policies and procedures, supporting the department's philosophy, accepting assignments, and performing duties within the scope of the state practice act and facility policies. The nurse will promote quality assurance, develop professional relationships, provide leadership, supervise nursing staff, identify and address problems, and make recommendations for improvements. Assisting with in-service education, assuming accountability for conduct, and participating in nursing activities that promote growth are also key. Approaching change positively, motivating staff, and accepting constructive criticism are important attributes.
