The Registered Nurse applies the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including patient and family education and continuity-of-care planning. The nurse communicates relevant patient and family information to the health care team, collaborates to establish patient goals, and evaluates progress to support effective outcomes. Professional growth is supported through learning activities consistent with Board of Nursing standards. The role is on 9 South, a 22-bed surgical specialties unit with a 1:6 patient ratio. The unit cares for adult patients requiring postoperative care, including patients undergoing urology, gynecologic, colorectal, and other surgical procedures. This is a full-time night-shift position, working 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. three times per week, totaling 36 hours weekly, including some weekends. The position requires at least one year of RN experience, a nursing degree, and a state or compact nursing license. Nurses with a compact license must obtain a Tennessee license within 60 days of obtaining a Tennessee address. The unit is described as fast-paced, dynamic, and unpredictable, offering the opportunity to learn regularly. Eligible candidates may receive a relocation bonus, and nurse student loan repayment is available. The nurse collaborates on the plan of care; coordinates and implements care while anticipating needs across the continuum; analyzes patient information to determine nursing diagnoses; continually evaluates progress and applies interventions; and promotes health and a safe environment. Additional duties may be assigned. The role also involves patient assessment and education, care planning, evidence-based practice, teamwork, communication, safety and regulatory compliance, resource stewardship, continuous improvement, and adapting to change.
