About The Position

The Registered Nurse coordinates and provides safe patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse directs and coordinates the care of assigned personnel and performs charge duties as assigned. Responsibilities include assessing patients and implementing appropriate interventions; administering medications and documenting care according to hospital policy; coordinating care and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team; and educating patients and their families throughout hospitalization and at discharge.

Requirements

State license required upon hire.
BLS required upon hire; must be through the American Heart Association.
Obtain ACLS within 90 days of hire or transfer.
Obtain NIHSS within 90 days of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

Identify patient problems and implement appropriate interventions.
Assess skin integrity and fall risk each shift, evaluate responses to medications and treatments, and complete assessments according to unit protocol.
Administer pain medication according to protocol and administer, transcribe, and document medications in accordance with hospital policy.
Follow hospital policies and procedures for administering blood and blood products.
Collect and accurately record patient data using the nursing process; document changes in patient status, report them to physicians, and document actions taken.
Accurately complete admission and discharge forms.
Develop a written plan of care that incorporates teaching and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Set care priorities based on patient acuity and/or preferences; coordinate tests and treatments with ancillary departments; and initiate appropriate evidence-based medicine tools.
Identify patient and family learning needs on admission and initiate resources to address them.
Explain procedures and interventions and document them on the education tool.
Provide patients and families with information and instructions throughout hospitalization and at discharge, taking their ability and willingness to learn into account.
Direct and coordinate the care of assigned personnel and perform charge duties as assigned.
