About The Position

UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse for a dual-role supporting its Surgical Trauma ICU and Neuro Trauma ICU in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. UPMC Presbyterian is a Magnet-designated Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital. The role provides nursing care to patients and their families, sets standards for the quality of care, and involves leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision across the care team. The nurse establishes collaborative relationships with physicians and other providers to achieve patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The 22-bed 6F/G unit cares for high-acuity surgical patients and people with severe blunt-force or penetrating trauma. Care may involve ventilators, therapeutic hypothermia, CVVHD, multiple vasopressors, traumatic brain injury, and emergent bedside surgery. The unit also admits overflow neurovascular and stroke patients. The 10-bed Trauma ICU (4G) serves patients with acute traumatic and neurologic injuries and performs bedside procedures including chest tube, central and arterial line, cranial monitoring bolt, tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, and ventriculostomy placement, as well as echocardiography and exploratory laparotomy. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care for a group of patients and their families using independent judgment, communication, and collaboration. The nurse applies the nursing process within Relationship Based Care, develops individualized plans of care, provides patient and family education, supports colleagues and learners, participates in quality improvement and shared governance, and uses research and evidence-based practice to improve care. The role requires the knowledge and skills to care for the age groups served by the assigned unit. The position offers a nursing career ladder, with final job title and rate of pay based on individual qualifications and candidate choice. Required certifications and contributions associated with the selected job title will be given a timeframe for completion. A pay differential is available to nurses who complete a BSN program.
