About The Position
The Registered Nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) cares for patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery. This role combines critical care skills with patient interaction, using assessment, clinical judgment, and compassion to support safe recovery and stabilization. The nurse works collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other nursing and interdisciplinary professionals, caring for a diverse patient population across a wide variety of surgical specialties and procedures. The position offers one-on-one patient care and opportunities to use advanced assessment and critical-thinking skills, with stated commitment to professional growth, education, and career advancement.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or another compact licensure state.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous PACU, ICU, ED, or other critical care experience.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment.
- Manage pain, comfort, and recovery needs while prioritizing patient safety.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary care teams.
- Educate patients and families regarding recovery expectations and post-operative care.
- Coordinate individualized plans of care to support optimal outcomes.
